Ajo Works is a program of the International Sonoran Desert Alliance focused on workforce development and entrepreneur support. Through our office you can:

  • Register for adult basic education (ABE) and GED classes
  • Enroll in employment training modules including internships and apprenticeships
  • Access entrepreneur support programs including business planning resources and matched savings accounts
  • Participate in product and service design incubators

The International Sonoran Desert Alliance offers structured daytime classes for youth ages 16-24. These classes include both academic work as well as life skills modules and work/study opportunities. Less structured evening classes are also offered for both youth and adults. Visit the Community Learning Center page for more information.

Employment Training
ISDA also offers a number of employment training modules to better equip Ajo’s workforce to meet local needs. Our philosophy is to create nimble training opportunities with multiple entry and exit points to best meet the expressed needs of local employers. Entrepreneur Support
In addition to training for existing employment opportunities, we also wish to help potential entrepreneurs expand commerce create new jobs in any way we can. We have numerous business planning templates and can connect new or existing businesses with matched savings accounts. Through our Business Support Center in the Ajo Plaza, we provide access to technical assistance, technology and capital to help entrepreneurs start or expand their business. This service is provided thanks to generous support from Freeport McMoRan Foundation and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Product and Service Incubators
Whether it be an innovative use of appropriate technology or a new tourism related service, we are working to expand economic opportunity in Ajo by creating a unique and interesting brand.
