Pitahaya Dulce or Spanish for 'sweet pitahaya', or cactus fruitGuided by a Hia C-ed O’odham Elder, experience the age old tradition of harvesting cactus fruit in the beautiful Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

Location: Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument Campground.


preparing the 'ku:ipad', or picking stickUpon arrival you will meet other tour members, set up your camping gear. Then we learn from our Hia C-ed O’odham Elder, how to make a ku:ipad (picking stick) in preparation for the next day's harvest. Dinner prepared on site. Social and educational time will complete the evening before you go to sleep under the stars.

At daybreak, breakfast will be served before harvesting begins. As the fruit is picked, we will make syrup to enjoy over ice cream, served after at our on site lunch.

  • closed toed, sturdy walking shoes
  • or hiking boots,

  • work gloves.
